Work stuff after the jump.

I've worked in finance for about 15 years now. Mainly commercial real estate, flooring lines, warehouse lines and some fleet lines. I'd been at this current job for 7 years and I built the department from the ground up. It pretty much runs itself now. Recently I was contacted by a former coworker that I consider a mentor and she presented an opportunity of me building a new department with a new company. I took the job on Friday and gave my 2 week notice. A 10% raise in pay, better bonus structure, great benefits and a commute that will be approximately 7 minutes.

I wanted the first day of my last two weeks to be a graceful and thankful bow out. Today I got the cold shoulder from the CEO and my two bosses didn't utter a word to me. While I understand it's a business and we're all here to make money, I was really hoping to get some support for myself, my family and my soon to be born first child. NOPE.

Have a M3.

Unless you were a jerk about your resignation or something, it sounds like they are being really petty.

Congrats on the new gig!

Damn, that's cold (of your CEO and bosses, to treat you that way). Best of luck with the change to the new job.

this is true. I work retail and tomorrow is my last day, I give no notice since they just hired so many people and there are no hours to be had. Fuck em

Congrats on the new job!

Hate it when employers do that, They have to understand that you can't work for them forever and people come and go. Those same bosses will be eventually leaving that company also, and they'll have to give themselves the same treatment I guess.

Agreed. I suspect when they look at my vacation balance they'll just send me on my way. I didn't want to go out like that. I wanted to set the next guy or gal up with less awkward transition.

Thank you. I feel like I played it right. I've seen numerous just give the finger on their way out the door with no notice.

Congrats on the new gig. Sounds like you played it right. Maybe you blindsided your soon-to-be former employer? Perhaps they're surprised by your move? Feel betrayed somehow? Bottom line, you've got to look out for No. 1, especially with babby on the way. Your bosses didn't get to be bosses by continuing to work for other people. Bonne chance!

Thank you very much. I don't believe in burning bridges so I really want to make both my and their transition painless. I just have to keep on truckin for a few more days and be the better person.

Congrats! Screw the work drama, you're good at your job and your priorities lie with your family and yourself. Employers are not "owed" loyalty. Seven years is long time too!

Can I ask: did you attempt to leverage this new job against your current job to see if you could get a better raise? Or you we're you just ready to move on?

At my first job, my manager was an asshole. Then when I gave my notice, she kept offering to be a reference on any future applications. Needless to say, I don't trust her for that.

It's all business out there man, my father poured his life into a business for 17 years, made them untold millions of dollars and they canned him to hire a recent grad for about 1/4 of his pay. It sucks but you have to just look out for yourself, and you can leave with your head held high since you are leaving it in good shape :)

I turned in my resignation today too. My immediate superior wasn't happy at the time but he's calmed down. We've got to work together for 2 1/2 more weeks so better make the best of it. I've only been here a year but I needed more money and I wanted to change careers to something that offers some room for growth (I have none of that here).

I don't know your bosses, but I've been in the position where someone I valued as a producer decided to leave. Wanna know what my internal reaction was?

"Oh fuckity, fuck fuck, how could I have let this happen? What could I have done? Why am I so stupid?!"

If you don't have control of yourself while this is going on, then you externalize it and get what you're seeing. Mostly though, I think it was time to leave since usually you see someone going through this come around, accept it in a day, and then proceed to build bridges for the person so they can come back if things don't work out. If they just continue it, then they're adolescents in adults clothing and haven't figured out the basics. Sigh - more common than not.

Congrats on your new job and new opportunities for you and your family. Unfortunately in the cut throat world of the corporate work place this tends to be the result, no matter how much good will you've built up. If I were you in this situation I would've laughed out loud at the cold shoulder to show him/her they are being childish, remember it's not why you leave but how you leave and you are doing things the right way.

Also the other two bosses are likely just upset they didn't try to get over on you sooner so fuck 'em.
